A Floristic Study of Fort Tejon State Historic Park
Kern County, California

L. Maynard Moe

ABSTRACT: A vascular plant species list of 238 species in 176 genera and 59 families was compiled for Fort Tejon State Historic Park, an 83-hectare park in the San Emigdio Mountains adjacent to the Tehachapi Mountains in southern Kern County, California. The natural vegetation, mostly oak woodland and grassland, is relatively undisturbed. Only 10 percent of the species are introduced, 30 percent of which are annual grasses. The most represented families are Asteraceae (36 species, 6 of which are introduced), Fabaceae (17 species, 3 introduced), Poaceae (15 species, 10 introduced), Brassicaceae (14 species, 4 introduced), Scrophulariaceae (11 species, 1 introduced), and Apiaceae (10 species, 1 introduced). One species, Camissonia ignota, is recorded as a new record for Kern County. Vouchers are with the California Department of Parks and Recreation; duplicates are in RSA.
